Commissions – Special Requests are Welcome

Thanks to internet technology, commissions are easily achieved over long distances.

Cate can work from your photograph, provided it has a high-enough resolution & detail. If you live within reasonable travel distance from RI she can take a photograph for you.

Commissions take a considerable amount of time, 20 to 40 hours, or more.

Most custom pieces range in price (typically $300 to 600+) depending on preparation, overall size & complexity, as well as matting, framing plus any shipping costs.

Art in Rhode Island is sales tax free!

Cate personally handles all framing & matting in her studio. Illustrations are expertly-framed with dust covers, bumper guards, felt pads over screwheads & tape over wire edges protect walls.

She offers custom labels for the back of her illustrations that contains a brief explanation of the art & artist. One label is adhered on the dust cover & another inside to the art backer-board.

Client's can add a special message, which is especially nice when giving as a gift.

Eyes of Aurora

“The Eyes of Aurora”

This illustration of a beautiful blue-eyed Husky was shipped to Michigan in time for Christmas 2015. A gift from mother to daughter who had just received her PhD.

After months of sorting through many client photos, from puppy age to all grown up, this was the image chosen.

Framed: 11" x 14"

red headed cranes

“Red Headed Cranes”

The inspiration given to create this bridal gift was one word “Japan” because the couple met, worked, got engaged & were honeymooning there.

A mighty broad subject, Cate decided on red headed cranes because the bride has red hair & they mate for life. The symbol means love. Unbeknownst to Cate at the time, it also was the symbol used on their wedding program.

Framed: 8" x 10"

blue butterflies

“Cousins: Blue Butterflies”

Commissions can be any subject, such as this special request. The client was visiting her cousin, who loved blue butterflies & she wanted to present this illustration as a hostess gift. Burned on watercolor paper & colored with dye-pigmented watercolor pencils.

Framed: 8" x 10"

Kelsey Prince

“Kelsey & Prince”

This was also commissioned for Christmas 2015. Bit of a departure from pyrography, this is a graphite drawing from two photos supplied by the client.
Image size: 7" x 5"
Framed: 8" x 10"

uncle tom the rooster

“Uncle Tom the Rooster”

This was a special request from an art collector Cate met at the Scituate Art Festival. He wanted a remake of Uncle Tom because the original art had already sold. Burned on watercolor paper with watercolor accents.

Framed: 12" x 12"

“A Joyful Ride”

This commission was burned on watercolor paper from a client-supplied photograph. Given as a special birthday gift.

Framed: 10½" x 12"

austin artwork

“In Loving Memory of Austin”

Commissioned after he passed away, the client's favorite picture of Austin was in a Santa‘s hat (top right). Cate got a second photo (bottom right) and made this composite art (left). Burned on Russian Birch, just in time for their Christmas party.
Image: 5" x 7½"
Framed: 9½" x 12"

Client's Comment:

"How can I ever thank you for the beautiful illustration of our Austin? You really captured him. All our guests, most of whom knew & loved Austin, were amazed at your work. I cannot begin to tell you how much we love it."

nudge roger art

“Nudge & Roger”

Cate took this photo of the client‘s horses. Roger is one the biggest horses Cate had ever seen. Nudge had the curliest mane.
The boys were very well behaved & offered–up a perfect pose with the help of a bag of carrot scraps.

Burned on Russian Birch.

Framed: 10" x12"

Rusty All-Star Art

“Rusty All-Star”

Rusty passed away suddenly, just one week shy of his 50th birthday. Portrait was commissioned by his family.

An avid sports fan, his portrait was done in the style of an old-time baseball card, with the desired features from the client‘s two photos along with a copy of Rusty‘s signature.

At a benefit raffle, this piece netted almost $1000. The winner requested that Cate‘s artwork be presented to Rusty‘s mother.
By all reports there wasn‘t a dry eye in the house.
